Coupling a Global Heliospheric Magnetohydrodynamic Model to a Magnetofrictional Model of the Low Corona

Abstract Recent efforts coupling our Sun-to-Earth magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) model and lower-corona magnetofrictional (MF) are described. Our Global Heliospheric MHD (GHM) uses time-dependent three-component magnetic field data from the MF as boundary values. The data-assimilation techniques to introduce vector Solar Dynamics Observatory/Helioseismic Magnetic Imager, hence a whole this simulation structure is driven with actual observations. GHM employs newly developed interface treatment that based on concept of characteristics, it properly treats sphere set at height sub-Alfvénic lower corona (1.15 R ⊙ in work). coupled framework numerically produces twisted nonpotential features consequent eruption events solar response combination two originally independently models presented here toward achieving further capabilities modeling nonlinear nature plasma, small-scale active regions large-scale wind structures.
